ConfederateVets.com came about from the
combination of several passions, Computers, the American Civil War and
Geneology. Information on Confederate soldiers was gathered as part of
a project to learn about databases for work. This turned into a
quest to find out more about individual soldiers and their
ultimate fate.
While researching my own families history in the South from 1700 on, it
was discovered that a lot of good information is available on the
Internet about Confederate soldiers, much of it is also old, incorrect
or missing. This site is an attempt to document the lives of the many
thousands of people who served in the Confederate Army and Navy,
compile that information into a single repository and provide it to
anyone interested.
It is the intent of ConfederateVets.com to gather this information from
primary sources, these sources include The Official Records of the War
of Rebellion, auto-biographies, diaries and letters of Civil War
veterans, unit histories composed by members of those units, regimental
rosters, Civil War era newspapers and periodicals, cemetery records,
headstones and memorials. This list is not all inclusive by any means
and we will consider any source presented to us.
We make no guarantees that the information will be 100% accurate. Some
of the sources authors have made mistakes in places, times and names.
We sometimes make errors in adding the information to the database. But
it is our intent to correct all errors, so the most accurate database
can be made available to the public.
Thank you in advance for stopping by and checking out our web site. If
you have any questions or information you would like to have
considered for the site please send us and email at
webmaster@confederatevets.com.
We hope you enjoy browsing through the site and are able to find
someone you are wondering about. If you did not find the information
you are looking for please come back often as the database is
continuously updated and we have plans for new features.
