Reported killed in a railroad accident near Shohola, Pennsylvania, July 15, 1864, while enroute to the military prison at Elmira, New York, and his remains buried near the scene of the accident, but subsequently removed to Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, New York, individual identification of the graves being impracticable, however.
