Mr. John Agner, of near Buena Vista, Rockbridge County, Va., lost his life on the evening of April 4, 1916, when his home burned to the ground, he being unable to escape. Mr. Agner was a Confederate veteran, having served throughout the war as a member of the famous Rockbridge Artillery, and was seventy-six years of age at his death. He resided at the old Agner place, about four miles northwets of Buena Vista, where he had lived for many years. Mr. D. B. Agner, of Warm Springs, and Mrs. J. S. Anderson, of Covington, Va., a brother and sister, survive him. The Rockbridge Artillery served with great distinction throughout the war and, together with Carpenter's Battery, belonged to the Stonewall Brigade, which was composed of the 2d, 4th, 5th, 27th, and 33d Virginia Regiments and the two batteries named.
