W. D. Allen was born April 15, 1844, at his home, nera Carrollton, Ala. In December, 1861, he joined Company H, 11th Alabama Regiment, Wilcox's Brigade, and took part in all the battles in which his regiment was engaged, including Petersburg and Gettysburg. In the fall of 1865 he went to Tennessee and for two years engaged in farming near Reelfoot Lake, then returned to his old Alabama home and there lived until his death, which occurred November 14, 1914. He had been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church since he was thirteen years old. He married Miss Fannie Sims, of Pickens County, Ala., and to them were born two children, who survive him. Mr. Allen lived the life of a Christian.
