At the age of seventy-eight years P. S. Gochnaner passed away at his home at Upperville, Va., on October 16, 1919. He was a soldier of the 8th Virginia Regiment, Pickett's Brigade, and as orderly sergeant he participated in the first and second battles of Manassas and Frazier's Farm, where he was badly wounded, losing his right arm at the shoulder and having his left leg terribly mangled. It was only by the constant care of a devoted aunt that his life was saved. But he recovered and later on married Miss Kate Frazier, whom he had known from childhood. By strict attention to business he was successful in acquiring a competency. Comrade Gochnaner was a consistent member of the Baptist Church, with which he had united when only seventeen years old. He passed away mourned by his family and regretted by his large circle of friends.
