Maj. Hugh G. Gwyn, of Sierra Madre, Cal. writes of the Veteran: "Aside from the interest awakened constantly by its perusal, I own also to sentimental reasons, having been honored through intimate acquaintance with its founder, Col. S. A. Cunningham, and having served through the war with those who gave their all at the behests of principle and constitutinal liberty. In fact, I cannot forget the CONFEDERATE VETERAN!"
