Mrs. Ida Thompson Hawes 1817 Valence Street, New Orleans, La., writing in behalf of the widow of Robert West Young, asks that surviving comrades will communicate to her any information of his service in the Confederate army. It is told that he enlisted in a Louisiana regiment under Kirby Smith and was later made courier to that general, his eyesight being poor. He surrendered at Shreveport, La., and later located in New Orleans.
