George B. Salley, of Orangeburg County, S. C., entered service soon after the beginning of the war as a private in Company I, 2d South Carolina Regiment of Artillery, and was honorably discharged from service through surrender at Greensboro, N. C., May 3, 1865, serving as private. After the close of the war he returned to his home, where he engaged in farming, and lived there until his death, November 7, 1914, being nearly seventy-four years old.
