Foster Schoppard

Biography of A. Schoppard, Argyle, Texas.

PROUD OF HIS RECORD.-A. Schoppard was born in Germany July 11, 1834, and came to the United States in 1858, locating in Spartanburg, S. C., from which place he enlisted in the Confederate army in May, 1861, as a member of A. H. Foster's company, 5th South Carolina Regiment, Jenkin's Brigade. With this command he served throughout the war, surrendering at Appomattox. As he says, he didn't have a thing to fight for, not even a wife, and could not speak the English language"; but he is proud of his record as a Confederate soldier. He went to Texas in 1880 and settled near Bartonville, Denton County, and has lived there ever since, a highly respected citizen. He is now eight-two years old and would be glad to hear from any of his comrades of the sixties. His address is Argyle, Tex., Route 1.
