Jesse A. Short, an estimable citizen of Williamson County, near Franklin, Tenn., died suddenly from shock in an automobile accident in the latter part of April, 1922. He was born April 25, 1839, the son of William Henry and Judith Atkisson Short, and was the last survivor of their twelve children. His father was a native of Williamson County, and his mother a Virginian. Comrade Short enlisted for the Confederacy on May 28, 1861, in Franklin, as a member of Carter's Company of the 20th Tennessee Regiment, and took part in the battles of Fishing Creek, Shiloh, Vicksburg, Murfreesboro, Hoover's Gap, Dalton, and Resaca, Ga. He was one of five brothers in the service, all of who returned home safely, but he was wounded five times. Although past his fourscore, he continued active to the end. He and his brother, B. F. Short, formed a business partnership just after the war, which was dissolved only by death. As a citizen he was noted for his honesty and uprightness, jus to all and meeting the obligations of life fairly.
