In obediance to the urgent request of many citizens of this county, I hereby announce myself a candidate for the office of Commissioner of the Revenue for the West end of Washington county, at the approaching election. I have neither the time nor the inclination to electioneer for the position, but if my fellow-citizens will honor me with the position, they may rest assured that its duties shall be faithfully discharged. To the voters I would say, that I rely entirely on my merit, and unlike ssome other candidates, I, during the pendancy of the election, will stay in the field where duty calls, while they remain at home selling whisky at enormous high rates, speculating on the wants of the soldier and the soldier's wives. I have served my country in the army for two and a half years, and as to my merit, I appeal to the commanders of my Regiment to which I have belonged, submitting my case to you for your approval or rejection.
I am respectfully,
J. C. Stanfield,
